On Sunday December 29th, GADSAR received a call from the RCMP requesting assistance to a SPOT beacon activation related to skier involvement in an avalanche in the Hope Creek drainage approximately 55 km North of Golden. 4 GADSAR volunteers responded via snowmobile and reached the site around midnight. Both patients involved sustained serious injuries. GADSAR volunteers provided initial care at t...he site throughout the night. Two helicopters with 5 additional GADSAR volunteers were dispatched at first light. GADSAR continued medical care enroute to BCAS transfer in Golden. The preparedness and quick thinking of the original party and the GADSAR response saved some lives on that day. As always, a huge thanks to all GADSAR volunteers especially the ones that had coffee and food flown to the site, and to our partners at Alpine helicopters, KHMR, BCAS and the RCMP.
